The Full Story
MOMO Film Festival began in 2015 in Los Angeles with Cinevana, an international event that reached cities including London, Paris, Berlin, Istanbul, and Buenos Aires. Those experiences shaped our vision and planted the seeds of what MOMO would later become.
Carrying that spirit forward, MOMO FF officially launched in 2023, hosting its first edition in Hollywood, the second in Birmingham, and the third in Ann Arbor. Since then, MOMO has welcomed film submissions from an average of 24 to 28 countries per year, reflecting its truly international spirit.
In its early years, the festival collaborated with Boğaziçi University in Istanbul and GETEM (the Audio Description Center for the Visually Impaired), presenting a special screening program with professionally produced audio-described films designed for visually impaired audiences. This initiative highlighted MOMO’s commitment to accessibility and inclusion within independent cinema.
Today, in its fourth year, MOMO continues to celebrate independent cinema and bold voices from around the world.
